Encon Construction won the Construction Business of the Year; kindly sponsored by Clearly PR. We caught up with them after their win to find out a bit more:
· How did it feel to win a Cardiff Business Award?
We were absolutely delighted to win this award, which is recognition of the dedication and hard work of our fantastic team. We have taken the award on a tour to our construction sites and offices, and the award now has pride of place at our headquarters in Cardiff.
· How did you find the experience of the Awards night?
The awards night was a fabulous evening, there was a real buzz in the room, and it was great to celebrate the achievements of a wide range of super businesses based in Cardiff. We would like to say a big thank you to the Cardiff Business Awards for putting on such a fantastic event.
· How do you strive to make a difference in the Cardiff Business market?
In addition to creating sustainable employment opportunities and contributing to Cardiff and the Welsh economy, we strive to make a difference by giving back to the industry; by giving up our time to sit on a number of trade associations and promoting the industry to address the skills shortage and invest in the next generation.
4. What are your goals for the next 12 months?
For the next 12 months Encon’s goals are to continue our organic growth in turnover and expansion, diversify into additional sectors, whilst also upskilling our current employees, promoting our trainee and apprentice scheme, and continuing to invest in Corporate Social Responsibility and community initiatives.
5. What is the biggest lesson you have learned in the past year as a company?
As the skills shortage deepens encouraging new entrants to the industry and training apprentices is becoming an ever increasing and important aspect of the business. In what remains a difficult marketplace businesses need to invest in their staff and managers of the future.
6. What one piece of advice would you give to any aspiring business owner?
Take good professional advice and go for it!
